Meet the Artist

Stargazer Art is the trading handle of Graham Hide, who has been living and working as an artist for as long as he can remember. While other toddlers sat on the classroom carpet listening to stories, Graham was on the other side of the room, determined to perfect his watercolor sailboat.

A lot has happened since then—well over 2,000 projects, in fact—spanning a range as diverse as anything you and your best friends could dream up together. That lifetime of experience and passion is what goes into your personal vision when you commission Stargazer Art. From classic to contemporary paintings, portraits, murals, and artistic finishes of every description—even the occasional sculpture—you can be assured of an excellent and iconic result.

Based in Germiston, east of Johannesburg, Stargazer Art has worked across South Africa and beyond, often through interior designers and industry professionals. Graham’s work has reached as far as Uganda, the Middle East, and further still. His paintings now adorn walls and ceilings in the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, the Seychelles, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar, as well as every corner of South Africa. If you’ve walked into a restaurant, hotel, casino, shopping centre, or someone’s beautiful home and thought, “Wow!” there’s a good chance you’ve seen a Stargazer Art masterpiece.

You may be wondering if you need to be an A-list celebrity or CEO of a multinational to commission Stargazer Art. The truth is, this illustrious career would not have been possible without being accessible and affordable. Alongside high-end, showpiece commissions, Graham has painted nearly 300 children’s bedrooms—in both opulent and humble homes. His works have been given as gifts between family members and business partners, and his murals brighten schools everywhere, from elite private institutions to rural classrooms in converted shipping containers.

Artist Statement

I believe in the philosophy of form follows function in every aspect of life. For me, this means that the reasoning behind my art—the embedded meaning, the message, and the expression of my clients’ vision and ideologies—is always the most important aspect of any piece I create. At the same time, I am deeply invested in the aesthetic value of art in spaces. My goal is to produce work that satisfies the senses while remaining true to its philosophical integrity.

My personal works reflect a continuous contemplation of life and culture around me, often in a surreal, dreamlike manner. They explore the philosophies I live by, while captivating viewers with imagery that is both alluring and relevant to the contemporary world.
